The Iriomote Station, located on Iriomote Island, is surrounded by broad-leaved evergreen and mangrove forests. This station includes four research groups (Mangrove Study, Coral Reef Ecology and Systematics, Biodiversity Study and Forest Resource Science ). This station has been playing a central role as a research base or station for the study of mangrove ecosystems. The station was founded as a branch station of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of the Ryukyus in 1971. In 1994 when Tropical Biosphere Research Center was established, the former station was integrated into the center.

The Facilities of this station, including the dormitory, are available to foreign and domestic researchers and students. The Iriomote station conducts intensive courses for undergraduate and graduate students.

Accommodation
A two-storied dormitory is available for all visitors for research. It is also used to lodge the participants of courses and meetings. The dormitory is capable of accommodating 10 researchers and 40 students.
